I had a chill, waking up this brisk morn. I made a piping hot coffee and donned my leggings, favorite sweater and of course, my Uggs. I think Fall may be sneaking up on us. I can do that.
Don't get me wrong, all the growth of summer and time spent shooting on the beach has been amazing. But I have long preferred the crisp morns and colors of fall...not to mention my favorite season...Halloween! Anyone who has been to my studio, has probably noticed all of my skulls, and notions of witchery. I was actually supposed to be born on Halloween, but instead, dug in my heels, and decided that November 1st was to be my day. I guess I didn't want to share. ;-)
Now, Halloween is not only fun and full of excuses to dress up in costume, which is typically frowned upon in public the rest of the year. It is also my time to sit back and reflect. I am not sure how many of you know this, but history, and the stories of the dead are so important to me. I have countless pictures of my loved ones, both here and gone. I display them proudly in my office and around my house. I have plenty of boxes of photos dating back to the late 1800's. This is a legacy that was given to me by my parents and grandparents. These are the treasures. My inspiration. Media and storage devices come and go, but print seems to be the longevity forerunner. Photos, books, keepsakes. Memories.
Do not lose the memories. At the very least back up that cell phone. Better yet, make prints, or a photobook. These can be passed down through the generations.
